Commercial diagnosis for complex growth challenges

Find what is holding growth back—before you decide what to change.

Commercial Growth Advisory helps leadership teams find the causes of commercial underperformance before committing time, money, or people to the wrong response.

When the symptom is visible, but the cause is not.

CGA is most relevant when leadership needs a more credible view of the commercial problem before deciding where to act.

01

Growth has slowed or become less predictable

Leadership sees the result but does not share a view of the cause. Market conditions, coverage, product, pricing, and execution are all in question.

02

Pipeline and forecasting are not credible enough

Activity is visible, but long capital cycles, channel-reported opportunities, and inconsistent qualification leave the forecast unreliable.

03

A material commercial change is being considered

A change to market focus, channel structure, coverage, incentives, or systems is under consideration, and leadership wants an independent read before committing resources.

Define the question. Test the evidence. Make the decision.

01

Start with the business question

Tom works with leadership to define the commercial question that needs to be answered and the decisions the work is intended to support.

02

Establish what the evidence supports

The work examines the relevant information, perspectives, and operating conditions needed to separate the real causes from the symptoms.

03

Decide what should change

CGA helps leadership clarify priorities, tradeoffs, and the next move. When the evidence supports a change, implementation support can be defined under a separate scope.

Scope, access, responsibilities, and engagement-specific deliverables are agreed before work begins.

Operating experience behind the advisory.

Commercial Growth Advisory was founded by Thomas L. “Tom” Smith, whose more than 20-year career spans construction-supply operations, medical-device sales, industrial equipment, water and wastewater controls, and distribution.

Tom built his operating foundation at White Cap, where he held responsibility for branch P&L, inventory, logistics, staffing, and customer service. He then moved into medical-device sales at Össur before joining JWC Environmental as the first dedicated direct salesperson for its industrial business.

Over the next decade at JWC, he progressed into OEM and national accounts leadership and ultimately divisional sales leadership. He later led sales and strategy at TESCO Controls and, most recently, national sales and customer experience at ICONIX Waterworks. Sales is the through-line; operating experience shapes how he judges whether a commercial plan can actually be executed.

You work directly with Tom throughout the engagement.
